BREAKING: Retirement Announcement Shocks Congress – Bye,Bye Pelosi!

Democrats in the House and Senate who will not seek re-election in 2022 have hit a 30-year high as most experts anticipate that Republicans will retake majorities in at least the House and likely the Senate and force the end of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s (D-CA) reign as Speaker.

When Rep. Kathleen Rice (D-NY) made the announcement this week that she wouldn’t be running in 2022, she became the 30th Democrat lawmaker to do so.

The last time this many Democrat lawmakers retired was 1992, when Democrats lost 41 seats as Bill Clinton took the presidency.

In the 2018 midterms, 34 Republicans retired, and the House was flipped to Democrat.

Managing editor of Sabato’s Crystal Ball Kyle Kondik called the midterms “a collision of important circumstances” and said, “There are a lot of signs that this is not going to be a good year for Democrats.”
