A lawyer for the whistleblower who brought a July Ukraine phone call into the spotlight has called on a GOP senator to resign over comments she made about the whistleblower.
Mark Zaid said that Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) should resign from the Whistleblower Caucus, which was designed to protect whistleblowers from the repercussions of coming forward.
Blackburn called Lieutenant Colonel Alexander Vindman “the whistleblower’s handler” in a tweet and criticized Time for considering the whistleblower for its person of the year honor.
The Whistleblower Caucus was created in 2015 by Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA).
Many Republicans think the whistleblower should testify in the Senate impeachment trial after it was revealed that he didn’t have any actual firsthand knowledge of the phone call or its aftermath.
