The news just dropped with a jaw-dropping resignation announcement. New Yorkers are shocked — it has finally happened and people can’t believe it.
“Multiple and growing credible allegations of sexual harassment and recent reports detailing the cover-up of the true COVID-19 death toll in nursing homes are extremely disturbing,” said Assemblyman Richard Gottfried (D).
These scandals “make it clear that Governor Cuomo is no longer the right governor for New York,” he continued. Gottfried is the state’s longest-serving politician, serving in the New York State Assembly for over 50 years.
At this point, it is only a matter of time before Cuomo succumbs to the pressure and resigns. It isn’t just Republicans calling for him to step down — it is members of his own political party.
If he doesn’t resign, however, several Democrats are already talking about a primary against the embattled governor in 2022. Cuomo will eventually be gone, one way or another.
Even Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) has lent his voice, saying that “it is clear that Governor Cuomo has lost the confidence of his governing partners and the people of New York,” calling for Cuomo’s resignation.
