Florida Rep. Matt Gaetz (R) has no plans to resign from the House amid allegations that he had a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old girl and traveled across state lines with her.
Gaetz is adamant that the claims against him are false and says he is being extorted by a DOJ official, who asked for 25 million dollars to prevent the accusation.
He has “been cooperating with federal authorities in this matter,” he said on Twitter, telling followers that his “father has even been wearing a wire at the FBI’s direction to catch these criminals.”
Gaetz claims the DOJ has recordings that would exonerate him and demanded that they release them “immediately.”
“It is a horrible allegation, and it is a lie,” Gaetz said. “The New York Times is running a story that I have traveled with a 17-year-old woman, and that is verifiably false. People can look at my travel records and see that that is not the case.”
