Washburn University in Topeka, Kansas used some summer break time to remove statues of Thomas Jefferson and Benjamin Franklin from its campus, replacing them with benches.
University officials were worried that the statues might be vandalized by protesters when they decided to remove them in July.
They also worried that alumni would be a “target or an embarrassment” if the campus had a Jefferson statue because of his status as a slaveholder.
How many more colleges, universities and municipalities will cave to these woke protesters before people wake up and realize that their history and its context are being stolen from them?
The consequences of making history inaccessible are going to be far more serious than anyone realizes right now. One day, they will regret demonizing our Founding Fathers and holding them to today’s standards to dismiss any good they have done.
