Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) wants National Guard troops out of Washington, D.C. and the wall around the Capitol torn down, and the sooner the better.
“[I] mean, when you look at the Army encampment that we have now, it really looks like a major army base there,” he said. “There are still 5,000 troops this huge perimeter with razor wire. This isn’t really a great image for a free country or for our country. So, I say the sooner it’s torn down, the better.”
Paul complained that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and Senate Democrat Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) were probably making decisions about the security “unilaterally.”
While Paul said that Democrats were accusing Republicans of threats and violence, he encouraged them to “look in the mirror” and acknowledge their own propensity to foment violence, like Vice President Kamala Harris encouraging donations to a bail fund for protesters that ended up freeing several violent criminals.
“But no one’s called for her impeachment,” Paul said. “No one’s saying that she should be held responsible for her speech. Maxine Waters, Cory Booker, they say get up in your face. They say mob them. So, it seems to be sort of a double standard that the enemy within only these Republicans apparently, and none of the things that Democrats say seem to be of concern to them.”
