Former federal prosecutor Trey Gowdy just spoke out on the FBI’s investigation into former National Security Advisor Michael Flynn.
Gowdy said, “They had no evidence that Michael Flynn was an agent of a foreign government. They opened the investigation in the summer of 2016. They’ve got zero evidence.”
The FBI had no evidence against Flynn so they turned to a “gotcha investigation.” The FBI pushed Flynn to commit a procedural crime and ran with that to get him prosecuted.
Gowdy went on to say, “Here’s what the FBI agent should’ve done: Gen. Flynn, whether you remember saying it or not, here’s the transcript, here’s a recording of the call you had with the ambassador. Maybe this will refresh your recollection. Who told you to call the Russian ambassador? Who told you to do what you did? That’s how you would run a true counterintelligence investigation.”
Flynn has spent the last three years fighting to prove his innocence against a politically motivated FBI.
Gowdy is right about the conduct of the FBI. They weren’t looking to see if a crime was committed, they were looking for a way to take Flynn down by any means. This was an incredible miscarriage of justice and there must be consequences for this.
