Despite meeting with pro-abortion House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) last week, Pope Francis doubled down Thursday on the Catholic position that abortion is murder.
The Pope told an audience of Italian pharmacists that they could–in fact, should–opt out of abortion procedures or medications due to reasons of conscience if they object to abortion.
“Conscientious objection is “a denunciation of the injustices committed against innocent and defenseless life,” the pope said.
“You know that I am very clear on this,” he continued. Abortion “is murder and it is not permissible to become accomplices.”
It will be interesting to see if the pope addresses this issue when he meets with President Joe Biden sometime in the next couple weeks.
