The Minneapolis City Council unanimously approved a pledge to replace the city police department with a “community-led public safety system.”
Minneapolis has chosen to be a guinea pig for the demands of the Black Lives Matter movement and other far-left protestors.
The council wrote in a resolution that, “The murder of George Floyd on May 25, 2020, by Minneapolis police officers is a tragedy that shows that no amount of reforms will prevent lethal violence and abuse by some members of the Police Department against members of our community, especially Black people and people of color.”
The move has set up a fight between the council and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey. Frey is opposed to the idea of defunding the city police department.
The city council failed to address how the city’s already high crime rate would be dealt with without a police department. For the law-abiding citizens of Minneapolis, they may have to protect themselves from here on out.
Minneapolis may be under new management if this move to appease Black Lives Matter leads to even more chaos and crime in the city.
