House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) may have permanently alienated some of her Democrat supporters in the House. Even Democrats have limits, and actively working in the interests of China might very well be too much for moderate Democrats to stomach.
In recent comments, Pelosi did just that, ignoring the very real role China played in the coronavirus pandemic and attempting to frame President Trump as the scapegoat.
Pelosi said on Thursday that, “What the president is saying about China is interesting — it’s an interesting diversion.”
The California Democrat both implied President Trump is responsible for the pandemic and that Trump is using China to shield his supposed mistakes.
House Republican Conference chairwoman Liz Cheney (R-WY) said, “When you’ve got close to 86,000 Americans who have died because of this global pandemic that was unleashed by the Chinese government, it is just a disgrace for the Speaker of the House to say [that] holding the government of China accountable is an ‘interesting diversion.”
Cheney continued saying, “I am confident there are many members of her own caucus in the House who are mortified.” Democrats facing reelection do not want to answer questions on why their leader is defending China.
