House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) has imposed $5,000 fines on two House members who did not follow the requirements to pass through body scanners to enter the Capitol building.
Reps. Louie Gohmert (R-TX) and Andrew Clyde (R-GA) had their pay docked under the new rules. A second offense will cost them $10,000.
Gohmert commented on the fine, “This should come as no surprise, but Democrats are making up the rules as they go.” He said he had just stepped out to use the restroom before making a speech.
The detectors were installed after Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) said she was going to bring a pistol onto the House floor for protection.
The Committee on House Administration said on Friday that Pelosi had broken her own rules by entering the chamber without going through the detectors and should have to pay the fine as well.
