House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) may have led the impeachment of President Donald Trump by Democrats (only) in her chamber, but even she had to admit the next day what many Republicans took great glee in stating: Trump is still the president, and will be for the forseeable future.
Her acknowledgement came in the form of an invitation to give the State of the Union address to Congress on February 4, an annual tradition for the president.
Pelosi did not, as she did last year, call it her “pleasure” to make the invitation, but she did say that she was doing so “in the spirit of respecting our Constitution.”
I guess there’s a first time for everything.
Trump has accepted her invitation. It’s pretty clear that he’s not planning on going anywhere except back to the Oval Office for four more years after the November 2020 election.
