Sen. Kevin Cramer (R-ND) had to apologize Wednesday for calling House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) “retarded” in a tweet Tuesday night.
Cramer tweeted “She’s retarded” with a video of Pelosi talking about the coronavirus relief bill, then deleted it a few minutes later when he noticed what it said, he told reporters in the apology.
He blamed autocorrect for the use of the “retarded,” which he said was not a word he used to refer to anyone. He had meant to type “ridiculous,” he said.
“I can be pretty tough in my rhetoric, but that’s not a word I apply to people for really good obvious reasons,” Cramer said.
“Retarded” is a rather offensive word, to be sure. Ridiculous is probably more accurate to describ Pelosi’s attempt to put forth her own version of the bill loaded with Democrat-friendly policies and pork.
