House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) dropped a bombshell on the Catholic Church by saying she could use her “own judgment” when it came to receiving holy communion. Pelosi has taken matters of church conduct into her own hands; the Vatican be damned.
Nancy Pelosi has been stuck between a rock and hard place for some time with the Catholic Church. She claims to be a practicing Catholic while openly supporting abortion and legislation that would expand abortion.
During a press briefing on Thursday, Pelosi was asked, “The U.S. archbishops and the Bishops’ Conference … doesn’t want to … allow you to receive communion.”
Pelosi responded by saying “I think I can use my own judgment on that.” Pelosi’s response is odd considering that she isn’t the one who decides if she will receive communion. Typically matters like that are decided by church leadership.
Vatican prefect, Jesuit Cardinal Luis Ladaria Ferrer, recently communicated to the U.S. Bishops’ Conference that “it is impossible” for Catholic politicians “to promote such laws or to vote for them.”
The Catholic Church and Democrat Catholics may be due for a confrontation. Pelosi’s support of abortion directly contradicts Catholic teachings. It is time for the Catholic Church to set the record straight when it comes to Catholic politicians who support legislation that directly contradicts church teachings.
