House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) has suffered a devastating defeat. And President Trump has made it clear he will exercise his power as President.
Democrats have been hoping to call former National Security Advisor John Bolton to testify on impeachment. Trump wants to prevent that to establish a precedent for future presidents.
In an interview with Laura Ingraham of “Ingraham Angle,” Ingraham asked Trump “Are you going to invoke executive privilege?”
President Trump responded saying, “Well I think you have to, for the sake of the office.”
Even if Democrats can get the Senate to hear witnesses, Bolton won’t be one of them. Trump is making it very clear this is about protecting the presidency.
Ultimately the testimony of John Bolton will be the least important item on the agenda. There is a good chance Republicans will kill impeachment outright.
