A top House Republican on the rules subcommittee said Friday on Fox News that the Intelligence Committee is still withholding transcripts from secret impeachment hearings that are supposed to be available to House members under the rules.
Rep. Michael Burgess (TX) was responding to a question about why House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) was withholding the passed articles of impeachment from the Senate when he mentioned the unreleased transcripts.
“Look, they had all the tools at their disposal on the House side, they made it secret,” Burgess said. “They had armed guards outside the doors. They still haven’t made all of the transcripts available to members of Congress.”
“No one has asserted that these are classified briefings,” he continued. “They were just simply secret hearings because it behooved the speaker to have secret hearings. That doesn’t pass muster. That’s not a constitutional part of the process.”
The unreleased secret transcripts could very well contain exculpatory information about President Donald Trump’s dealings with Ukraine that have formed the basis of impeachment proceedings against him.
