Superstar Olivia Newton-John just announced a cancer bombshell. The news is absolutely tragic, but she’s making the best of it. She’s a fighter.
The 71-year-old singer and actress, best known for her role as Sandy in “Grease,” is battling breast cancer for the third time. This time, however, she is choosing to “enjoy my life,” she said to CBS’ Gayle King.
Newton-John said that denial was “consuming my day,” and she wanted to live the rest of her life — however long it lasts — to the absolute fullest. To that end, she chose to focus on the small, everyday wonders.
“I went, ‘You know what? I don’t know what my time is, but I need to enjoy my life,” she said. “So, I’m going to eat a cookie if I want it. And I’m gonna have a cup of tea if I want it.”
She continued: “And if I wanna have a little bit of wine, I’m gonna do that.’ Because the joy of life and everyday living has to be a part of that healing process as well.”
Regardless of the diagnosis, research has shown that attitude oftentimes factors into life expectancy. Newton-John has decided to embrace this truth. Surely, the prayers of fans around the world are with her.
