Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez dropped a major bombshell about Paul Manafort’s jail sentence this week.
Ocasio-Cortez voiced her disapproval of the “little” jail sentence in a tweet Thursday. Ocasio-Cortez’s statement claimed that Manafort’s “little” sentence shows that “it’s almost impossible for rich people to go to jail for the same amount of time as someone who is lower income.”
The former Trump campaign manager was convicted of tax and bank fraud. He was sentenced to less than 4 years of prison.
Democrats are furious about the decision. Special Counsel Robert Mueller recommended 19 1/2 to 24 years for Manafort. However, according to the New York Post, “Judge T.S. Ellis III said that was “excessive.”
Ellis also disclosed that part of his decision was made due to the fact that besides the fraud, Manafort had “lived an otherwise blameless life.”
The decision sent Ocasio-Cortez into a rage, tweeting that “In our current broken system, ‘justice’ isn’t blind. It’s bought”, despite no evidence to back up the claim.
