Jason Chaffetz, former chairman of the House Oversight Committee stated that Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez should be investigated for inappropriate use of government email accounts.
The story broke on Friday that Ocasio-Cortez had apparently hired her boyfriend, Riley Roberts, as a salaried staffer. She also gave him a mail.house.gov email account.
Ocasio-Cortez promptly responded to the accusation by denying that she had hired Roberts. She also tweeted he needed the email to access her calendar, and that “Congressional spouses GCal access all the time.” Ocasio-Cortez’s chief of staff echoed the comment by saying that “spouses are allowed to know what their partner is doing.”
Further evidence shows that Ocasio-Cortez’s claims are wrong. The House administrative office responded that permission for those types of email accounts is rare. Ocasio-Cortez’s story doesn’t add up, and Chaffetz pointed out that her actions are “inappropriate” and that there “should be real consequences.”
