Former President Barack Obama used his euology to Rep. John Lewis (D-GA) to push for voter reforms and an end to the filibuster.
Obama called voting fraud protections imitations of Jim Crow-era restrictions and also said that the filibuster was a “Jim Crow relic” that should be gotten rid of if necessary to strike down voter ID laws and institute mail-in voting.
He also attacked President Donald Trump, just not by name, when he said that the government sent “agents to use tear gas and batons against peaceful demonstrators.”
The new version of the voting rights law is being named after Lewis, but that’s not a good reason to take away needed protections and give Democrats more ways to cheat.
It’s sad but predictable that Obama used a funeral of a respected civil rights hero for political reasons.
