Father Michael Pfleger, a Chicago-area priest former President Barack Obama called a mentor and “dear friend,” has been removed from his post at Saint Sabina Church in the city following accusations that he sexually assaulted a minor over 40 years ago.
Pfleger, now 71, was instrumental in supporting Obama’s first Senate run in 1995 and was also involved in his first run for president.
Obama said Pfleger helped shape his moral compass, and the priest was active in left-wing causes like opposing the Second Amendment and the Black Lives Matter movement. Other political allies of Pfleger include Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel, Jesse Jackson, and Nation of Islam figurehead Louis Farrakhan.
“America was Birthed in Genocide, Built on Slavery and committed to upholding supremacy,” Pfleger tweeted in November.
The gender and age of Pfleger’s alleged victim were not known.
