Wake County, North Carolina is suspending pistol permit applications through April because of what it said was a 250% increase in requests for them since the coronavirus outbreak began.
About 290 applications are now being received per week when previously, only about 90 applications a week were received.
Both Senators from North Dakota have accused the Wake County Sheriff’s office of making an “illegal decision.”
“People are already suspicious and on edge,” Republicans Warren Daniel and Danny Britt wrote in a joint statement. “It’s reckless to illegally suspend their Second Amendment rights just when they need assurance that they can trust government.”
Other municipalities are also encountering backlash for declaring gun stores non-essential businesses and ordering them to close.
