An NFL legend just blasted football players who kneel for the National Anthem. They deserved everything he said — and he didn’t hold back one bit. It is time for American athletes to pay attention or get left behind.
“If you can’t respect our national anthem, get the hell out of the country,” said former Chicago Bears Coach Mike Ditka during an interview with TMZ Sports. “That’s the way I feel. Of course, I’m old fashioned, so I’m only going to say what I feel.
“You don’t protest against the flag and you don’t protest against this country who’s given you the opportunities to make a living playing a sport that you never thought would happen,” Ditka continued. “So, I don’t want to hear all the crap.”
We need more NFL legends like Ditka to speak up for our traditions. In spite of what Colin Kaepernick says, America is not a racist nation and the NFL needs to shut down anthem-kneelers or there will be a mass exodus of fans from the league. That is all there is to it.
Furthermore, if you want to protest something, don’t use the National Anthem to do it — it isn’t the time or place. Our anthem is about bringing all Americans together as one and reflecting upon our highest ideals. Protest when you aren’t being paid to play a game.
The NFL needs to decide whether it wants to go “woke” and go broke or keep fans in the stadiums and watching TV. It is an easy decision, but politics may end up trumping common sense — and Americans will ultimately vote on this decision with their pocketbooks.
