President Trump just issued a shock announcement about US involvement in the ongoing war in Yemen.
Trump just used his veto power to overrule a bill that would end US assistance to Saudi Arabia-let resistance to Houthi rebels in Yemen.
This is only the second veto Trump has issued in his time in the White House.
This resolution was designed to invoke the War Powers Resolution to end the US military’s role in the ongoing civil war in Yemen.
The bill passed the House on a 247-to-175 vote earlier this month. Unfortunately for the supporters of the bill, it wasn’t passed with a veto-proof majority.
President Trump issued a statement justifying his decision. He declared that the resolution is “an unnecessary, dangerous attempt to weaken my constitutional authorities.”
