Special counsel Robert Mueller has announced that former Trump campaign manager Paul Manafort will face major prison time. This sentencing is a result of his 2018 conviction of tax and bank fraud.
Mueller’s office clarified that Manafort will be sentenced to somewhere between 19 and 24.5 years in prison. Manafort will also be fined up to $24 million dollars.
Top prosecutor Andrew Weissmann said that Manafort’s sentencing should “serve to both deter Manafort and others from engaging in such conduct.”
Manafort was originally investigated for his role in the purported Russia-Trump collusion. Although he wasn’t convicted of any crimes relating to Trump’s actual campaign, Democrats are making a point to make an example of him.
