Freshman Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez just suffered a major defeat at the hands of the Senate.
AOC’s “Green New Deal” went before the Senate to determine if the proposal could even reach the debate stage.
News just broke that Ocasio-Cortez’s brainchild, the “Green New Deal”, was defeated in a 0-57 vote. AOC’s own party betrayed her, with 42 Democrats voting “present”. Even AOC’s fellow radical, Bernie Sanders declined to throw his support behind the resolution.
Democrat Sens. Joe Manchin, Kyrsten Sinema, and Doug Jones stunned AOC by standing with Republicans against the proposal.
The New York Congresswoman unveiled her sweeping climate change proposal last month. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell blasted the proposal, calling it “a radical, top-down, socialist makeover of the entire U.S. economy.”
Ocasio-Cortez attempted to control the damage, tweeting that it was her idea for Senate Democrats to vote “present.” She’s been widely ridiculed for some of the more outlandish details of the scheme, and the fact that not a single Democrat senator was willing to officially declare their support for is a major blow.
