A Time op-ed by Daniel Alter suggested that the House Sergeant at Arms should arrest former Ambassador and National Security Adviser John Bolton if he continues to refuse to testify in impeachment hearings.
Alter is a lawyer in New York City who served as Assistant United States Attorney and Special Counsel to the New York state Attorney General, so his legal credentials are top notch.
Then again, so are the credentials of Adam Schiff, Nancy Pelosi, and many others seeking to impeach President Donald Trump over a perfectly normal phone call with Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky.
Alter admits that it might be awkward to go into the White House and arrest someone who is currently a member of Trump’s team. Bolton, having quit a couple months ago, is apparently fair game.
Bolton’s refusal to testify while taunting House members that many conversations that took place “haven’t been discussed yet” is undoubtedly frustrating for those who really, really want to get Trump, but so far they haven’t wanted to take the step of arresting holdouts. Wouldn’t want to look like the tyrants and usurpers that they really are underneath the civil veneer.
