The region of Italy with most of the coronavirus cases and deaths has called in the Italian army to enforce lockdown procedures that the European nation hopes will cut down on new cases of the disease.
Italy now has over 40,000 confirmed cases of coronavirus and over 3,000 deaths attributed to the disease. The Lombardy region, which includes the city of Milan, has most of the cases and deaths.
Funeral providers in Bergamo said, “A generation has died.”
“Unfortunately, we are not seeing a change of trend in the numbers, which are rising,” Lombardy President Attilio Fontana said.
114 soldiers will enforce lockdown measures, which are keeping people in their homes except for grocery shopping, medical needs and walking pets with proper social distancing.
