New York City Democrats have extended voting rights to nearly one million non-citizens thanks to new mayor Eric Adams (D).
Adams issued a statement on Saturday saying, “I believe that New Yorkers should have a say in their government, which is why I have and will continue to support this important legislation.”
Of course, Adams didn’t seem worried about how allowing non-citizens to vote would dilute the political power of New York City’s citizens.
Extending the right to vote to millions of non-citizens will lead to New York’s citizen population being ignored in favor of non-citizens who will now be a powerful voting block.
However, this radical new plan is far from set in stone. The New York Republican Party has vowed to take this new plan to court in an effort to get it overturned.
New York GOP Chairman Nick Langworthy issued a statement saying, “We will fight, using every legal means necessary, to prevent this legislation from becoming law. Stay tuned for further announcements about our legal action.”
