Lame duck New York City Mayor Bill DeBlasio isn’t leaving office without one last power grab–and it’s a big one.
DeBlasio announced Tuesday that the city would mandate that all private employees be vaccinated, along adding children ages five and up to the existing mandate for indoor dining and entertainment venues.
The mandate’s deadline is December 27, which is less than three weeks from the day of the announcement. By this date, all affected people must be fully vaccinated, meaning they have received two shots of qualifying vaccines.
The previous mandate only required one shot to be considered fully vaccinated.
DeBlasio bragged his mandate was the “first in the nation,” like authoritarianism was something to be proud of.
