President Joe Biden’s Health and Human Services has moved to interpret sexual discrimination in federal healthcare rules to include sexual orientation and gender identity.
This means all doctors will be required to perform gender reassignment surgeries and other procedures and treatments for children who identify as the opposite gender of their biology and identification at birth.
Former President Donald Trump had had the opposite policy, which was to use biological sex for these discrimination rules.
Catholic groups decried the move as being “not based in science” and said it would be “contested in the federal courts.”
Biden’s assistant health secretary is a transgender woman, Rachel Levine, who was born Richard Levine.
