Muriel Bowser, the mayor of Washington, DC, kicked the Utah National Guard out of their hotel accommodations on Friday, citing alleged inflammation of riots.
Bowser wrote to President Trump on Friday asking him to remove, “all extraordinary federal law enforcement and military presence from Washington, DC.”
Bowser claims the troop’s presence was “inflaming demonstrators and adding to the grievances.” Bowser has yet to provide any evidence of her claims.
This prompted a response from Senator Mike Lee (R-UT) who said, “Just heard that Mayor Bowser is kicking the Utah National Guard out of all DC hotels tomorrow. More than 1200 troops from 10 states are being evicted. This is unacceptable.”
For Bowser to turn down the National Guard and to give rioters a free pass to continue being violent is a puzzling choice.
Mayor Bowser should get her wish and the Utah National Guard should return home where they are actually wanted. If the nation’s capital suffers more violence, its citizens know who to blame.
