Republicans tweeted their disgust on Sunday that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) plans to keep Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA) on the House Intelligence Committee despite the revelation that he was involved with a Chinese spy for years during his tenure on the committee.
“Unbelievable. Looks like Nancy Pelosi is keeping Rep. Eric Swalwell on the House Intelligence Committee in the new Congress — even after his ties to a Chinese spy were exposed,” House Minority Whip Steve Scalise (R-LA) tweeted. “Why do Democrats refuse to stand up to China?”
Axios reported last month that Swalwell was so involved with Christine Fang, also known as Fang Fang, that she fundraised for him and even placed an intern in his office. Sources said that Swalwell’s relationship with Fang was sexual, but Swalwell has refused to admit to any romantic relationship.
Rep. Jody Hice (R-GA) tweeted, “@RepSwalwell being allowed to remain on the Intel Committee after being compromised is outrageous!”
“For Dems, getting “in bed” with the Chinese Communist Party is a winning career move!” added Rep. Jim Banks (R-IN), a China hawk and Navy reservist.
