House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) is calling on Secretary for Veterans Affairs Robert Wilkie to resign, claiming that he belittled a female veteran who said she was sexually harassed by a hospital contractor.
Andrea Goldstein, who is in the Navy Reserve, said that the contractor at the Washington Veterans Medical Center (VAMC) “bumped his entire body against mine and told me ‘I looked like I needed a smile and a good time,’” in September 2019.
Goldstein’s story had no corroboration and did not result in charges, but the investigation found that Wilkie said Goldstein had a history of complaints against others and that she wanted to discredit the VA.
Pelosi called Wilkie’s behavior a “cover-up” and said that he was “complicit in the continuation of a VA culture that tolerates this epidemic.”
Wilkie said that the investigaion exonerated him and that there was no evidence he tried to go after Goldstein.
