Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi announced yesterday that she is moving to try to block President Trump’s emergency border declaration.
Pelosi wrote a letter to members of Congress, saying that “the President’s decision to go outside the bounds of the law to try to get what he failed to achieve in the constitutional legislative process violates the Constitution and must be terminated.”
According to the Washington Times, the resolution would block the emergency declaration on simple majority votes in both chambers. Pelosi is encouraging her colleagues to sign her petition.
If Pelosi’s resolution makes it off the ground in Congress, it will be introduced to the Senate. Even if both the House and Senate approve it, the bill will arrive on the President’s desk. A two-thirds majority vote is required to override a Presidential veto, which is an unlikely scenario.
