Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) is jumping in. Millions of Americans are completely shocked — they never expected her to make this announcement as votes are still being counted and the White House hangs in the balance.
Should the House of Representatives have to get involved to determine the presidency, Pelosi told National Public Radio (NPR) that she stands “ready” to do so. It is almost like she is welcoming the opportunity.
Pelosi said: “We’re ready. We’re prepared. We’ve been ready for a while because we see this irresponsibility of the president, his disrespect for the Constitution, for our democracy and for the integrity of our elections. So we’re ready for him.”
While it is historically rare, the House may have to act should a tie in the Electoral College occur. In this case, one vote from each state would be counted and therefore determine the president of the United States for the next four years.
Should Joe Biden prevail — either electorally or through Pelosi’s involvement — and the Senate flip into Democrats’ hands (all eyes on Georgia right now), she has already set declared some items on the agenda.
“We will lower the cost of health care by lowering the cost of prescription drugs, saving the preexisting condition benefit,” she said, which is ironic considering Trump has already taken steps to lower prescription costs and vowed to protect preexisting conditions. This is a smokescreen.
