A moderate Democrat in the House is questioning House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA)’s reasons for trying to overturn a certified election in Iowa when the Republican was seated two months ago.
“What motivates Congress to look at something that should be a state issue?” Rep. Lou Correa (D-CA) said of Pelosi’s effort to re-examine the win of Rep. Mariannette Miller-Meeks (R) over Rita Hart in the second district by only 6 votes.
“I want to see what compelling reasons there are for the feds to get involved in this. I think these are issues that right now are probably best left at the state level,” the Democrat said.
Rep. Cindy Axne (D) is the only House Democrat from Iowa, and she supports the House investigation into the seat now held by Miller-Meeks.
“I support a transparent process that ensures every properly cast vote in this contest is counted,” Axne said. At issue are another 22 votes that may not have been counted in the race before it was certified.
