House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) decided not to make President Joe Biden wear a mask during his congressional address Tuesday night, even though she has been enforcing strict masking rules in the House chamber for months, despite the fact that most House members are fully vaccinated.
House members who show up unmasked face a $500 fine for a first offense, and a $2500 fine for a second offense, but Pelosi said the rules only apply to House members.
Former Vice President Mike Pence did not wear a mask when he was in the chamber in January.
According to White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki, Biden had not decided whether to wear a mask while speaking.
He typically wears his mask until he takes the podium, then takes it off while he speaks.
