A new law in New York has led to the release of an illegal immigrant who killed a mother of three on Christmas Eve.
Jorge Flores-Villalba, 27, was arrested for hitting and killing Marie “Rosie” Osai, a legal immigrant from Haiti. Flores-Villalba admitted to hitting Osai while driving without a license, then not reporting his actions to police because he feared arrest.
He was charged with fleeing the scene of a deadly accident, a felony, but was released without bail on Christmas day because of the New York law, which is an attempt to be more fair to those who don’t have the means to post bail after being arrested.
Proponents of the law say that it’s not fair to the poor that they have to remain in jail when those who have money can get out on bail, but it seems like the law is only letting more criminals back out on the street to commit more crimes.
Under new laws in the state, which were passed against the expressed objections of law enforcement personnel, suspects also have the right to inspect their own crime scenes, including those accused of robbery, who now have the right to go back into the house they allegedly robbed.
