Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) said Tuesday during an event in his home state that defunding police was “one of the dumbest ideas” the left has come up with.
McConnell said it the year has been tough for law enforcement and that he strongly supports law enforcement all over the country.
“I think the abuse that’s been heaped on law enforcement over the last year is unfortunate,” McConnell told his audience at a federal anti-drug program gathering.
McConnell said he “think[s] defunding the police has got to be one of the dumbest ideas ever surfaced by anyone in our country. And we need what you’re doing.”
He also said he supported keeping qualified immunity for police, asking, “Without quality immunity, how do you get people to do law enforcement work?”
