Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell’s (R-SC) challenger, Democrat Amy McGrath, has requested all attendees for a planned debate on Monday be tested for coronavirus.
In a statement, McGrath said, “Senator McConnell has a duty to Kentuckians to keep them safe and set an example on following CDC guidelines.”
The request is a strange one as there will be no actual live audience for the debate. The two candidates will be twenty feet apart and will be alone apart from a moderator.
Other than the two candidates and the moderator, the only other people in the building will be workers who are already monitored for coronavirus symptoms.
McGrath is using COVID-19 to virtue-signal but she should really be more worried about her own performance in the upcoming debate.
The race for the Senate seat seems to be safely in McConnell’s hands as polls have him in the lead with a 7% margin.
