Vice President Mike Pence just finally made his move. President Donald Trump is smiling — the two leaders are on the same page once again.
In a letter to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Pence rejected her call that he invoke the 25th Amendment to remove Trump from office. His words couldn’t have been more clear, concise, and convincing.
Pence said that “with just eight days left in the President’s term,” Pelosi and the Democratic Caucus are making a demand that is not in the best interest of our nation or consistent with our Constitution.”
In the same letter, he also noted his refusal “to exert power beyond my constitutional authority to determine the outcome of the election,” and he had no intention of yielding to “political games” by the House of Representatives.
Pence could very well be the best vice president this nation has ever had — at least in the modern era. He is principled, consistent, and shows steady, determined leadership.
How the vice president has conducted himself over the past four years and during an especially difficult couple of weeks is impressive. Americans got to see the full measure of his personal integrity.
