Former First Lady Michelle Obama just confirmed the relationship rumors. Speculation has swirled for years, but she released a definitive statement on national television this week. Here’s the truth.
During an interview on the ‘Today Show’ with former President George W. Bush’s daughter, Jenna Hager Bush, Obama discussed the strong friendship that has developed between her and Bush.
“Our values are the same,” said Obama. “We disagree on policy, but we don’t disagree on humanity. We don’t disagree about love and compassion.” She went on to describe how this friendship came to be in the first place.
“I had the opportunity to sit by your father at funerals, the highs and the lows, and we shared stories about our kids and about our parents,” said Obama. The two have been seatmates for years at official functions.
In spite of their political differences, Obama and Bush appear to have nothing but love and respect for each other — and it’s certainly a nice thing to see, especially in these turbulent times.
But they are merely reflecting what a vast majority of Americans hold to every day: Passionate debate, civil disagreement, and seeing their friends and neighbors and fellow countrymen.
