As of Monday morning, 28 people had been shot in Democrat-run Chicago over the Memorial Day weekend, with two of them becoming fatalities.
In the city led by Mayor Lori Lightfoot (D), homicides are up 36 for the year to date over last year, to 227.
Through May 24 of this year, 1,298 people were shot in Chicago in 2021, which is 291 more than in the same time frame in 2020.
The National Fraternal Order of Police said May 25 that the murder rate in Chicago was up 25% over 2020.
The ongoing problem is stumping Lightfoot and other Democrats, who think that stricter gun laws, like the ones Chicago already has, will keep crime down in the region. But it hasn’t worked so far, and it’s not likely to work in the future.
