Predictably, the left is pushing back on the Trump administration’s request for hospitals to report coronavirus deaths directly to the Department of Health and Human Services rather than to the CDC’s National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN).
Maxine Waters said that hospitals should tell the president to “GO TO HELL,” and obviously not change their reporting.
The CDC is going along with the change in the wake of reports of difficulties and inaccuracies with its reporting, however.
“In order to meet the needs for flexibility of data gathering, CDC has agreed to remove the National Health Safety Network from the collection process in order to streamline reporting,” CDC Director Dr. Robert Redfield said, adding that the CDC would still be able to collect, use and report data the same way it is doing so now.
HHS spokesman Michael Caputo said that the current reporting system is “inadequate” and that the agency is “committed to being transparent with the American public about the information it is collecting on the coronavirus.”
