Actor Matthew McConaughey just confirmed the rumors and millions of fans are stunned. He is leaning heavily towards a major decision in Texas.
McConaughey recently said that a run for Texas governor is “a real consideration,” and this is the first time he’s dropped a hint. Back in November, the Oscar-winner appeared on Hugh Hewitt’s radio show.
“Look, politics seems to be a broken business to me right now,” he said to Hewitt. “And when politics redefines its purpose, I could be a hell of a lot more interested.”
In short, McConaughey hasn’t closed the door at all — and he is intentionally keeping it wide open. He could even have crossover appeal, given his opposition to the far-left’s cancel culture and “patronizing” attitude.
However, while he certainly isn’t as liberal as most Hollywood stars, the actor also holds some views that would be problematic for conservatives, such as support for an “assault weapons” ban.
It simply would not be a winning message in Texas to push for taking a law-abiding citizen’s AR-15. McConaughey seems like a nice, likable person, but he should probably stay far away from Texas politics.
