Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer announced that he intends to not die on the Supreme Court, giving hopes to Democrats calling for him to step down.
Democrats have been panicking about Breyer for the past year as the former Clinton appointee isn’t getting any younger.
To add to the pressure for Breyer to step down, Republicans are threatening to retake Congress in next years midterm elections.
Justice Breyer told Fox News anchor Chris Wallace that, “I don’t intend to die on the court, I don’t think I’ll be there forever. I see the point. Probably in the background there are many considerations. Many, many considerations.”
Justice Breyer certainly wants to stay on the Supreme Court, but he knows what could happen if he waits too long.
If Republicans retake Congress in next year’s midterm elections, they will hold all the power to replace Breyer should he retire or die on the court.
