There were 33 shootings over Memorial Day Weekend in Chicago, and three of those victims lost their lives.
The number was actually lower than 2020, when 49 people were shot and ten killed, but the number of shootings and homicides is up year over year in 2021.
Mayor Lori Lightfoot (D) has been trying to lower the level of violence in the city, which has some of the strictest gun control laws in the entire country.
She has not had much luck, however, because legal guns are not the problem.
Most of the shootings are related to gang activity, and are committed with illegal guns bought and sold on the street.
