California Governor Gavin Newsom (D) announced on Thursday that he hoped to see Vice President Kamala Harris become the “next president of the United States.”
Newsom made the comments during an interview with the San Francisco Chronicle, further adding fuel to the fire of speculation that Democrats could dump President Joe Biden in favor of his Vice President in 2024.
When asked if he had presidential aspirations, Newsome emphatically declared he didn’t and instead said, “I’m hopeful that she’s the next president of the United States.”
President Biden’s advanced age has already caught up with him and there is a good chance he will not be capable of serving another term as President.
The obvious answer for Democrats is to proceed with Vice President Kamala Harris and Newsom certainly appears to be firmly in Harris’s camp.
However, Vice President Harris is immensely unpopular, and running her in 2024 will mean Democrats have to explain to voters why they should ignore her performance as Vice President.
