Mexican president Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador said that during a recent virtual meeting Vice President Kamala Harris promised to send millions more extra doses of vaccines to the country for their use.
Harris told Obrador that they could send Astra Zeneca vaccines to Mexico, but had to test them first to make sure they were viable and safe.
The vaccines would be from Astra Zeneca, and are not approved in the U.S. yet. The U.S. already sent 2.7 million doses of the Astra Zeneca vaccine to Mexico in March.
The vaccine gift is being used to motivate Mexico to help the U.S. out with the recent surge in illegal immigration after Biden canceled the successful Trump Remain In Mexico agreement.
A briefing about Harris’s meeting with Obrador did not mention the promise of more vaccines for Mexico.
